How to disable email tracking
Disabling email tracking has two angles: turning off tracking on outbound email you send, or blocking trackers on inbound email you receive. This guide covers both.
Before you start
- Email account you want to disable tracking on (Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail)
Step-by-step
- 1
On outbound: toggle tracking off per send
In your tracker's sidebar (Outsolvi, Yesware, Mixmax, etc.), every compose window has a tracking toggle. Turn it off before sending to disable the pixel and link wrappers.
- 2
On outbound: set default to off
In your tracker's settings, change the default tracking preference from 'on by default' to 'off by default'. Most trackers let you do this; some default differently.
- 3
On inbound: enable Apple Mail Privacy Protection
Apple Mail iOS/macOS: Settings → Mail → Privacy Protection → Protect Mail Activity. This pre-fetches all tracking pixels on Apple-controlled servers so senders see only the relay, not your real engagement.
- 4
On inbound (Gmail): install a pixel-blocker
Chrome extensions like Trocker, Ugly Mail, or PixelBlock detect and block tracking pixels in inbound mail. Install from the Chrome Web Store and the extension auto-blocks.
- 5
On inbound (Outlook): disable automatic image download
Outlook Settings → General → Email → Block external content. With external images blocked, tracking pixels don't load unless you click 'Show images' on a per-message basis.
Set up tracking in 2 minutes instead of 20.
Outsolvi installs as a native Outlook add-in or Gmail Chrome extension. Confidence-scored opens, AI follow-up alerts, native Outlook and Gmail tracking. From $7/mo, 14-day free trial.
Troubleshooting
Outbound tracking still appears in tracker dashboard
Some trackers cache the tracking state per-thread. After disabling, send a new thread to verify rather than replying to an existing tracked thread.
Apple MPP not blocking some opens
MPP requires Apple Mail (the app). If the recipient uses Gmail or Outlook apps on iOS, MPP doesn't apply. They need to switch to Apple Mail to get MPP protection.
Gmail pixel-blocker not detecting some pixels
Different blockers detect different patterns. Trocker is generally the most aggressive. PixelBlock is more conservative. Try multiple if one misses pixels you want blocked.
Frequently asked
Why would a sender disable tracking?
Privacy posture, compliance requirements (HIPAA, GDPR contexts), or sensitive recipient relationships (legal, regulator, executive).
Can a recipient tell when tracking is disabled?
Not visibly. The absence of a tracking pixel is invisible.
Does Outsolvi support disabling tracking per send?
Yes. Per-send toggle in the sidebar, and configurable default in Settings.

Nate built Outsolvi after watching every email-tracking tool he had ever used lie to him about opens. Outsolvi runs Tier 1 to 5 confidence scoring on every open, native in Outlook and Gmail, so the number on the dashboard is one a rep can actually act on.
We update these pages when the underlying mechanics change. new mailbox-provider rules, new tracker behavior, new measurement gaps. The dates above are real revisions, not auto-touches.
