Tracking Link Wrapper
Also known as: Link Wrapping, Click Tracking URL, Wrapped Link
A tracking link wrapper is a URL that the tracking tool substitutes for the original link in an outbound email. When the recipient clicks, they hit the tracker's domain first, the click is recorded, and the user is redirected to the original URL. This is how every click-tracking tool works in 2026 because tracking-pixel data alone cannot show clicks.
Click tracking is a wrapped-URL problem. The tracker replaces each link in the outbound email with a wrapper URL of the form `https://t.outsolvi.com/c/<hash>`. When the recipient clicks, the browser requests the wrapper, the tracker logs the click event with metadata (IP, User-Agent, timestamp), and responds with a 302 redirect to the original URL.
Why link wrapping matters
- It is the only way to track which links the recipient clicked
- It supports per-link analytics (which CTA performed better)
- It enables UTM-tag injection and consistency
- It is invisible to the recipient if hover-text matches the original URL
What to watch for
- Scanner pre-fetches: Microsoft Safe Links, Mimecast URL Protect, and Proofpoint TAP fetch every wrapped link within seconds of delivery, contaminating raw click counts. Confidence-aware click tracking filters these.
- Link-preview unfurls: Slack, Teams, and social-media link previews fire a click on the wrapper; not a buyer-engagement signal.
- Wrapper-domain reputation: if the tracker's domain gets a bad reputation, the link wrappers get flagged as suspicious. Outsolvi uses dedicated tracking subdomains per customer to isolate reputation.
- HTTPS: the wrapper URL must be HTTPS or modern mail clients will strip the link wrapping or warn the recipient.
Frequently asked questions
Can recipients tell I am tracking clicks?+
Most do not notice, especially when hover-text and link wrappers are well configured. Power users sometimes see the wrapper URL on hover; this is the unavoidable tradeoff of click tracking.
Does Outsolvi rewrite every link?+
Configurable. By default Outsolvi wraps tracked outbound links; reps can mark individual sends as no-tracking when sending to legal or privacy-sensitive recipients.
