How to track emails in Outlook

Last reviewed June 12, 2026

Outlook has three clients in 2026: Outlook Desktop (Windows + Mac classic), Outlook on the Web, and New Outlook (the Office.js-only successor). A tracker that works across all three requires an Office.js add-in distributed via Microsoft AppSource, which loads identically on every Outlook client.

This guide covers Outsolvi as the example (the only confidence-scored tracker with full Outlook parity in 2026), but the install pattern is identical for any Office.js add-in. Total time about 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • Outlook account (personal or work)
  • Permission to install add-ins (if work account, may require admin approval)
  • Outsolvi account (free 14-day trial, no credit card)

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Open Outlook and go to Get Add-ins

In Outlook Desktop or Web, click the Get Add-ins button on the Home tab (Desktop) or the More menu (Web). New Outlook: Apps button in the left rail.

  2. 2

Search the AppSource catalog for Outsolvi

In the add-in search box, type 'Outsolvi' and select the listed add-in. The publisher should be verified by Microsoft.

  3. 3

    Click Add to install

The add-in installs in seconds and appears in the Outlook ribbon (Desktop) or the taskpane buttons (Web and New Outlook).

  4. 4

Sign in to your Outsolvi account

Click the Outsolvi add-in icon and sign in. If you don't have an account, the prompt links to a 14-day free trial.

  5. 5

Enable tracking on your next send

Compose a new email and click the Outsolvi icon. Toggle the tracking switch on. The next send will fire opens, clicks, and confidence-scored events into your dashboard.

Set up tracking in 2 minutes instead of 20.

Outsolvi installs as a native Outlook add-in or Gmail Chrome extension. Confidence-scored opens, AI follow-up alerts, native Outlook and Gmail tracking. From $7/mo, 14-day free trial.

Troubleshooting

Add-in not appearing in AppSource search

Make sure you're on Outlook 365 or Outlook 2019+. Classic Outlook 2016 and earlier don't support Office.js add-ins. Upgrade or use Outlook on the Web.

Admin approval required to install

Forward the Outsolvi AppSource listing URL to your IT admin. The add-in is a single Microsoft-verified Office.js extension; review and approval is typically a 10-minute task.

Tracking pixel not firing on test sends

Verify that the tracking toggle is on in the compose window (the icon should be highlighted). If still not firing, the recipient may be using a pixel-blocking extension. Confidence scoring filters this automatically.

Frequently asked

Does this work in New Outlook?

Yes. Office.js add-ins are the only extension model New Outlook supports. The Outsolvi add-in loads identically across Desktop, Web, and New Outlook.

Will my recipients see I'm tracking?

No. Outsolvi adds no branded footer; the tracking pixel is invisible. Privacy-conscious recipients with pixel-detection extensions may see the pixel domain on hover, but no UX indicator.

What if I'm on a work Outlook account?

Most enterprise IT departments approve Office.js add-ins from AppSource. The add-in is Microsoft-verified and uses only documented Office.js APIs.

Nate SummersCo-Founder, Outsolvi

Nate built Outsolvi after watching every email-tracking tool he had ever used lie to him about opens. Outsolvi runs Tier 1 to 5 confidence scoring on every open, native in Outlook and Gmail, so the number on the dashboard is one a rep can actually act on.
